PQMEs, AMEs, or Independent Medical Evaluations (IMEs) at several locations throughout California.
Workers' compensation claims can determine whether psychological injuries are connected to workplace experiences or injuries. A QME evaluation helps assess how these conditions affect a worker’s daily functioning and eligibility for benefits.

Psychological injuries can arise from:
-
Physical injuries resulting in chronic pain
-
Workplace harassment
-
Hostile work environments
-
Trauma at work

A QME report is used to help determine an injured worker’s eligibility for workers' compensation benefits. The QME will analyze and assess how these injuries might impact and affect a worker’s overall psychological functioning. Prior to the meeting, the evaluator would have reviewed all submitted medical and personnel records.

During the face-to-face evaluation process, the claimant will meet with the psychologist (in person or via telehealth). At that time the evaluator will gather a complete history, including a psychosocial history, mental health history, medical history, legal history, occupational history, educational history, work status, and history of the injury. Additionally, the claimant will receive and complete a battery of psychological testing. These tests will help in assessing emotional and psychological functioning. The testing provides objective data that assists in determining a diagnosis and substantiates the report.

The QME then has 30 days from the date of the evaluation to complete and submit the report to the requesting parties.
