She is recognized for her expertise in high-profile and complex cases, as well as her compassionate and dedicated approach to patient care.

In addition to being an award-winning and published psychologist, Dr. Burrell brings nearly three decades of clinical expertise and dedication to her patients and practice. With specializations in forensic psychology and trauma, she has extensive experience working on both intensive and high-profile cases. She is skilled in addressing a wide range of situations—from the relatively routine to the highly complex. Her professional expertise is matched by her unwavering commitment, empathy, and compassion for every individual she serves.

Dr. Burrell earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Law & Society at the University of California, Santa Barbara, before pursuing her first master’s degree in Forensic Psychology at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Building on her forensic training, she furthered her clinical focus in multicultural mental health by earning an additional master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, followed by a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Multicultural Mental Health from the California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles.

Over the past two decades, Dr. Burrell has developed specialized expertise in trauma, PTSD, clinical evaluation and assessment, chronic pain, and workers’ compensation populations. She has also conducted compensation and pension evaluations for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for more than 13 years. Dr. Burrell’s professional approach combines direct data collection with a warm, humanistic style designed to help claimants feel as comfortable as possible while ensuring accuracy and fairness.

Dr. Burrell also brings more than 15 years of experience in the workers’ compensation field. She began by applying her years of clinical expertise to skillfully assess patient needs through objective medical evaluations. Over time, she expanded her work to include medical necessity reviews, utilization reviews, and overall quality assurance across a wide variety of cases. In addition, she has provided high-quality, independent peer reviews to the disability insurance industry, carefully addressing each claimant’s overall functionality, work capacity, treatment appropriateness, and prognosis. Her ability to resolve conflicting peer review findings, defuse politically sensitive situations, and improve the quality of patient care reflects both her clinical skill and her professional integrity.
